All information given to the counsellor is treated as confidential. This regards both face to face therapy as well as online sessions.

I am registered under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (2018) (registration number ZA285092) with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).  As a client, your explicit consent will be sought (in the form of a privacy statement) as to the processing of your personal data.

As a counsellor, I am ethically bound to protect the confidentiality of our communications. I will only release named information about our work to others with your written permission or in response to a court order.

There are a few situations where legally, I have to breach confidentiality. If I have information that indicates that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused or if a client is an imminent risk to him/herself or makes threats of imminent violence against another, I will advise your GP or the appropriate authorities to take protective actions. These situations are rare and if such a situation occurs in our relationship, I will make every effort to discuss it with you before taking any action.

All members of BACP and UKCP are required to have regular supervision. My work continues to be supervised to ensure that it is safe, ethical, and effective. Aspects of our work may be discussed during these sessions, but any identifiable details will be removed. My supervisor is a member of UKCP and as such they are bound by the same confidentiality rules as myself.

The UKCP & BACP are the organisations that self-regulate the Counselling and Psychotherapy sector. As a psychotherapist/counsellor I am a registered member of the BACP and a registered member of UKCP, so I abide by their respective ethical frameworks:
